‘Deadpool’ Turns 5: Ryan Reynolds Shares ‘Lost’ Fan Letter and His Response

Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, who plays the titular foul-mouthed superhero Deadpool, shared the letter dated March 10, 2016, penned by a fan named Hunter.

The 44-year-old actor, who plays the titular foul-mouthed superhero, shared the letter dated March 10, 2016, penned by a fan named Hunter. “Five years later, I’m still in awe of Deadpool fans. Hunter wrote me this letter after #Deadpool came out and somehow my response never got mailed. Holds up. Mostly,” Reynolds’ wrote alongside photos of two letters typed on paper: one from Hunter and a reply from him, also dated March 2016.

In the letter, addressed to “Dear Mr. Deadpool”, Hunter asks for advice on being more bada** like you.” In his response, Reynolds said “Commit to one thing. For me, it’s acting.” The Canadian actor added that acting and I are like Tom Brady and New England: together forever. The first “Deadpool” movie, produced by 20th Century Fox, came out in 2016. The film was a huge success and was followed a sequel in 2018. Deadpool was one of the few Marvel comic characters not owned by Disney, but after Fox’s merger with the industry giant, it has become a Marvel Studios property. A third “Deadpool” movie is in the works with Emmy winning duo Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux attached to write the film.

One of the most elaborate yet heartwarming proposals of all time. Detective Jake Peralta asks Detective Amy Santiago to be his wife during the 5th Halloween Heist episode. For context, the detectives of the 99th precinct in NYPD take part in elaborate heists every Halloween, and the winner gets the “Amazing Human/ Genius” title. The duo is a fan-favourite, and this episode is one of the most highly rated ones in the entire series.

Barney and Robin, How I Met Your Mother

When we talk of elaborate proposals, nothing even remotely comes close to Barney Stinson’s proposal to Robin Scherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother. In a series of ‘steps’ Barney convinces Robin that they don’t work well together and fake-dates Robin’s co-worker Patrice, who she hates. Actor Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, opened up about the rumours of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire joining the upcoming film.

Rumours have been rife with the possibility of Maguire and Garfield, who played Spider Man in the previous films produced by Sony as a part of a ‘multiverse’ storyline. However, no official announcement has been made about these reports.

Recently Holland appeared in the Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast via Just Jared, where he was asked about the casting rumours. The 24-year-old actor said, “Beats me, I don’t know. If they are, they never told me yet. That would be something that Marvel would do. I watch the film and be like, ‘So that’s who that tennis ball was!’”

The actor was further asked if he had met the actors in real-life before. He said that he had met Garfield at a BAFTAs after the release of Spider Man: Homecoming. He called the Social Network actor a ‘lovely, nice bloke.’

“I’ve bumped into Tobey a few times at different parties in LA. He was really nice. They seem to be lovely, really nice people. I hope they enjoy our movies. I hope they enjoy our Spider-Man’s,” adding that he hasn’t had a chance to meet Dunst.

The actor also gushed about the upcoming standalone Spider-Man movie. “I’ve bumped into Tobey a few times at different parties in LA. He was really nice. They seem to be lovely, really nice people. I hope they enjoy our movies. I hope they enjoy our Spider-Man’s,” he said. He revealed that they have previously shot for 7 weeks and will shoot again after Christmas break.

Spider-Man 3 will also star Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marissa Tomei and Tony Revolori, who will reprise their roles. Benedict Cumberbatch will also reportedly appear in the film as Doctor Strange.

Can We Please Talk About the Sexual Assault Scene in Bridgerton?

Bridgerton has an extremely problematic sexual assault scene. However, it is worrying that we are choosing to not talk about it.

On Christmas 2020, American TV mogul Shonda Rhimes presented a new Netflix series called Bridgerton, which within a month became the biggest show ever on the OTT platform. Rhimes, who is responsible for some of the most popular shows on television including Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder, brought her usual charm to the period piece. Needless to say, everyone was quickly obsessed.

Created by Chris Van Dusen, Bridgerton is set in Regency-era of London. It tells the story of the powerful Bridgerton family, with special emphasis on the gorgeous elder daughter Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), who has debuted in the “marriage market.” The queen calls her the most promising debutante of the season, but soon she finds that her suitors have dried.

On the other hand is the gorgeous Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), who for personal reasons doesn’t want to get married. So, to get nosy relatives off their back, they start a ‘fake courtship’ and soon fall in love.

Bridgerton checks all the boxes for being a mass-entertainer. A lot of people went in because it was a period drama, many others hailed the diverse casting of the show. Bridgerton also boasts of an extremely handsome cast, with lead actor Regé-Jean Page becoming the new internet boyfriend. It is safe to say that we saw the success coming, but we are not so sure if the show actually deserves it.

Ever since the show released late last year, many publications called it out for two major reasons. First it was accused of race-baiting. In many interviews, creator Chris Van Dusen said that Bridgerton would address race. He said that despite being set in Regency-era London, the fact that many actors were People of Colour, was not due to ‘Colorblind Casting,’ as apparent in cases of Enola Holmes or The Personal History of David Copperfield. However, the show was accused of not keeping its promise because only a small scene was dedicated to the issue.

The second issue, which we will be addressing too, was the case of the sexual assault scene that happens in the 6th episode.

To give a context, after falling in love and being caught in a compromising position (for that time), Daphne and Simon hurriedly get married under the condition that they cannot have children. Simon tells Daphne that he cannot give her children and she assumes that it is because of a physical inability. It is, however, a vow he has taken to end the Hastings line as vendetta against his abusive father.

Daphne, as with most women of that time, is taught about sex by her husband. So after months of passionate sex and seemingly blissful Honeymoon phase, Daphne realises that Simon is actually consciously not letting her get pregnant.

Daphne hatches a plan to trick Simon into impregnating her. Here, the show takes a different turn from the book, The Duke and I by Julia Quinn, on which it is based. In the book, Daphne takes advantage of a drunk Simon by seducing him, which clearly demarcates that a violation of consent has happened. However, the series takes a different decision, and frankly, messes things up to an uncomfortable degree.

In the show, Daphne and Simon have consensual sex but Daphne takes charge, which prevents Simon from ‘pulling out.’ What’s more disturbing is that when Simon realises what she is up to, he asks her to stop twice, but she doesn’t. What the show fails to do this is to mention that this, in fact, is a rape-scene. In Netflix’s Content Rating and Warning, ‘sexual violence’ is mentioned for the episode but not once does the show’s storyline describes it for what it is. It is, instead, shown as Daphne’s revenge from Simon for lying to her.

What clearly is a rape scene, is brushed off as an explosive fight between our two protagonists. Simon is then shown to be angry at Daphne for trying to break his vow, not because she sexually assaulted him.

It is interesting to note how different the consequence of the show would be if the genders were reversed. This wouldn’t fly under the radar and neither would the makers show such a thing. Another reason why this went unnoticed because people went on and on about how good looking the character of Simon was. Since a lot of people fetishized the character, it was easier to look past what happened to him.

This sexualisation happens to female characters all the time. However, we have come a long way from romanticising abuse against women on screen. It is even more concerning because male victims of sexual abuse are most often made fun of and not taken seriously.

According to Netflix, 63 million households in the world have watched Bridgerton. That constitutes an alarming rate of people who might not understand the importance of respecting one’s consent. If it is not an enthusiastic yes, it is rape. Consent can also be taken away at all times. This means, if a couple start having consensual sex, one partner can ask the other to stop, and they must. Otherwise it is rape.

Streaming platform HBO Max is reportedly planning to develop a live-action series based on author JK Rowling’s classic Harry Potter’ book series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is currently in fledgling stages at the WarnerMedia-owned streamer that is engaging with potential writers to bring the famed books alive on the small screen.

Sources told the outlet that broad ideas have been discussed as part of the early-stage exploratory meetings. Rowling’s books series, which chronicles the story of the eponymous teenage hero, were published between 1997 and 2007.

They have sold over 450 million copies worldwide, distributed in more than 200 territories and translated into 79 languages. The series was previously made into a blockbuster film franchise led by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

The eight film series started with 2001’s “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and culminated with two back-to-back movies — “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1” (2010) and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” (2011). The franchise collectively earned over USD 7.7 billion at the box office and was universally praised by the critics.

Warner Bros, the sister company of HBO Max, is currently making the third part in the spin-off franchise “Fantastic Beasts”, which started with 2016’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.

In 2014, Justin Bieber, who was 19 at the time, was arrested on the suspicion of drinking under influence, resisting arrest and sitting behind the wheel without a valid license.

Sanjhi Soch Beauro –Pop star Justin Bieber is looking back at the time when he was arrested in 2014, and shared that he is not proud of that moment in his life.

In 2014, the singer, who was 19 at the time, was arrested on the suspicion of drinking under influence, resisting arrest and sitting behind the wheel without a valid license.

Now, the 26-year-old pop superstar took to Instagram late on Saturday to look back on getting arrested in 2014.

“7 years ago today I was arrested, not my finest hour. Not proud of where I was at in my life. I was hurting, unhappy, confused, angry, mislead, misunderstood and angry at god,” Bieber wrote alongside a photo of himself in handcuffs.

I also wore too much leather for someone in Miami,” he joked, before delving into how he has become a better person.

“All this to say God has brought me a long way,” Bieber said.

“From then til now I do realise something.. God was as close to me then as he is right now. My encouragement to you is to alet your past be a reminder of how far god has brought you. Don’t allow shame to ruin your “today” let the forgiveness of Jesus take over and watch your life blossom into all that God has designed you to be,” he added in the post.
