The way the iMessage protective layer works is that the BlastDoor sandboxing essentially provides for what is a quarantine zone where the service can inspect an incoming attachment in a message, for any malicious code or add-ons, before it is released and you receive it as a new iMessage on your iPhone.

Sanjhi Soch Beauro –Apple has made the iMessage service even more secure, at a time when there is a lot of concerned conversation around data privacy, security and encryption available on other popular instant messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram. With the release of iOS 14 late last year and the subsequent updates that now see us with iOS 14.4 as the very latest software for the Apple iPhone and iPad, Apple introduced a new technology that protects the service against malware attacks and malicious codes. The security system in place, dubbed BlastDoor, adds another layer of protection to iMessage which like other iOS apps already takes advantage of running in a sandbox mode. In fact, this was discovered by a Google Project Zero security researcher Samuel Groß.

The way the iMessage protective layer works is that the BlastDoor sandboxing essentially provides for what is a quarantine zone where the service can inspect an incoming attachment in a message, for any malicious code or add-ons, before it is released and you receive it as a new iMessage on your iPhone or iPad. This is quite important because the way iMessage is built for simplicity and convenience, it is pretty much a minimal user input environment—for instance, you don’t need to tap on an image or video or document attachment to download it. Secondly, iMessage also ties in with a bunch of other apps on your iPhone, including for digital payments. All of this makes the extra protection layer all the more essential.

What do you have to do as an iPhone user? Nothing, at this time. The new security layer is enabled by default for your iMessage pipeline, as long as you are running any iteration of iOS 14 on your iPhone or iPad. To update your iPhone or iPad to the latest iOS 14 version, head to Settings -> Software Update to check and download the newest update

The announcement falls in line with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in 2019 about how the 2021 national census is planned to be held digitally.

Sanjhi Soch Beauro –The 2021 national census of India will be held digitally, confirmed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her Union Budget 2021 speech. Touching upon the topic, Sitharaman confirmed that the upcoming census of India would become the very first one in the history of India to be held digitally, marking India’s transit towards digitising government and public services, and continue transiting towards paperless operation systems. The FM’s statement falls in line with a previous statement given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2019.

Back in 2019, Shah had stated that the 2021 national census would be held fully digitally, and had further highlighted that the government is set to spend up to Rs 12,000 crore in setting up the digital framework for the census. He had also confirmed that a mobile app will be used in the process of census 2021. While the exact specifics have not been issued yet, the previous reports have highlighted that those certified to carry out the census process may be encouraged to used their own mobile phones for the process. It will also be interesting to note the infrastructure that the central government sets up in a bid to maintain the sanctity of collected data.

The 2021 census of India is set to begin in March 2021, after the previous census was undertaken in 2011 – marking India’s population at 1.21 billion back then.

Only select Google Discover users can see hashtags under specific articles, and it is likely that the company is only testing the feature. Google is yet to share more details over the latest development.

Sanjhi Soch Beauro –Google Discover is getting clickable hashtags under select story cards that contain an article based on users’ search history, interests, as well as topics and places they follow. The hashtag appears just after the article description and above the website’s favicon, as per a 9to5Google report. The exact purpose of the hashtags remains unclear at the moment, but Google is likely planning to improve the discovery of topics as done by its competitors Twitter and Facebook. However, Google appears to be adding limited hashtags under each article that essentially highlights the brand’s name and the topic.

Only select Google Discover users can see hashtags under specific articles, and it is possible that the company is only testing the feature. The report points out that it could be a bug rather than an A/B test, with Google accidentally surfacing this backend aspect of Discover to users. On the contrary, it appears the main purpose of the hashtags is to improve a topic’s discovery as users can click on them. For instance, a story on Sony OLED TVs would show two hashtags – one on Sony and the other one on OLED. Users can click on either to find more relatable topics and articles.

Notably, Google has been using hashtags on YouTube for quite some time to improve the discovery of topics on the video platform. Over the years, it has been improved for more categories and videos on the platform. Google explains that hashtags are an easy way for you to find videos about popular topics, and users can use them by either searching the same keyword (with the hashtag) on the search bar or by directly selecting the hashtag in a video title or description. Users may be able to search for topics on Google Discover with the same method.

Apart from Xiaomi, other brands like Apple, Samsung, Oppo, and more are also said to be working their own version of smart glasses.

Sanjhi Soch Beauro –Smart glasses seem to be an upcoming gadget that is garnering a lot of attention amid the tech community, if not everyone. Many mainstream tech companies like Apple, Samsung, Oppo, and more, alongside more offbeat and niche brands like Vuzix are said to be working on their own set of smart glasses with AR capabilities. Now, Chinese smartphone major Xiaomi is also being reported to be working on its version of the wearable. A recently-filed patent suggests that the company is working on its smart glasses that may include 4D detection and a new therapeutic signal emitter.

According to a recent report in ITHome, Xiaomi has been granted a patent for a “smart glasses and glasses case”. The report said that the new therapeutic emitter feature will be capable of phototherapy, allowing the glasses to potentially help towards treating mental conditions. The report mentions that the light signals may include ultraviolet, infrared, laser, and visible light signals. There aren’t many details about the product, apart from a blueprint image. However, it is being reported that it may also be capable of transmitting sound signals simultaneously with visual signals to enhance its capabilities and user experience.

Now, while it may seem convincing for Xiaomi to start working on smart glasses given how many brands are venturing into the new tech, this information is to be taken with a pinch of salt. A patent does not always confirm things as they seem. At times, companies do not even launch patented technologies as some patents are meant for trial and research and development basis.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had stated that the next iPhone SE 2021 would not release in the first half of this year. Apple is also reportedly working on iPhone SE Plus.

Sanjhi Soch Beauro –Apple refreshed the iPhone SE lineup last year which looks quite different from its predecessor that debuted back in 2016. While the company has not provided any details about the 2021 iPhone lineup yet, concept renders offering a glimpse into the possible design of the next-generation iPhone 2021 or iPhone SE 3 have surfaced online. The blog post containing the concept design also looks at some specification that Apple may include in the next budget iPhone model. Notably, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had stated that the next iPhone SE 2021 would not release in the first half of this year.

Slovakian blog Svetapple published the concept renders of the iPhone SE 3 that shows the smartphone with flat edges similar to the iPhone 12 lineup. Interestingly, the iPhone 12 smartphones’ design was inspired by the original iPhone SE, released in March 2016. The renders further tease the device with a hole-punch display that has slim bezels on all sides. Many Apple iPhone fans would love to see this change as both the previous iPhone SE models have considerable bezels across all sides. Moreover, the renders show no home button and the blog post adds that the iPhone SE 3 might feature Touch ID fingerprint recognition on the power key – similar to the latest iPad Air. The back panel design remains the same with a single camera sensor and LED flash. In terms of specifications, the iPhone SE 3 or iPhone SE 2021 is imagined to feature a 5.4-inch OLED display instead of the traditional LED display on iPhones models. The iPhone 12 series was the first Apple-made smartphone to come with an OLED panel. The camera is said to be a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/1.6 aperture. Under the hood, Apple may introduce the A14 Bionic 4G chipset, the blog post speculates. To recall, the iPhone SE 2020 comes with a 4.70-inch display, 12-megapixel rear camera and 7-megapixel front camera, and A13 Bionic SoC.

On the pricing front, iPhone SE 3 could be available at $499 (approx Rs 36,400) for the base 64GB storage variant. The rumoured price is $100 higher than the $399 (approx Rs 29,100) iPhone SE (2020).

Apple is also reportedly working on the iPhone SE Plus and recently, its alleged specifications were published in a report. The company is yet to confirm the development of both Apple iPhone SE 3 (or iPhone SE 2021) and SE Plus.

Sanjhi Soch Beauro –The Xiaomi Mi A3 is receiving a new system update that brings the January 2021 Android security patch. The latest update comes weeks after its users started reported bricking issues following the initial Android 11 update in December 2020. Xiaomi had also released the second batch of Android 11 update for Mi A3 users in India and other markets, but several smartphones by now were severely impacted. The Chinese smartphone company had confirmed that all bricked Mi A3 phones would be fixed free of charge, irrespective of whether the phones are in warranty or not.

According to Gizmochina, the latest system update for the Xiaomi Mi A3 comes with build number V12.0.4.0.RFQMIXM (global variant) and is 329MB in size. Just like other OTA updates, the new update is rolling out in a staggered manner. However, user can check its availability manually by heading to Settings > System > Advanced > System update to check if their unit has received the update. The official changelog is yet to be published by Xiaomi; however, the report adds that Mi A3 is now receiving native screen recorder, which was missing in the previous build. It can be accessed from the edit section of quick settings. Apart from the screen recorder, the new update also brings YouTube Music as a system app that cannot be uninstalled. As mentioned, the update carries the January 2021 Android security patch.

Notably, several users had reported issues with the Wi-Fi calling even after receiving the second batch of the stable Android 11 update earlier this month. It is unclear whether has addressed that issue with the latest update for Mi A3.

Sanjhi Soch Beauro –The Union Budget 2021 will be delivered in the paperless form for the first time and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will instead use a Made In India tablet in parliament today. The tablet replaces the usual papers and files that have always been part of the Union Budget speech. This succeeds the Bahi Khata, that the Finance Minister had introduced last year. The first glimpse of the tablet comes as it sits inside a red coloured cover sleeve with the national emblem embossed on the cover.

The use of a Made In India tablet is a dual push for digitization as well as the Atmanirbhar Bharat push along with the Made in India initiative of the Government of India. The Union Budget 2021 is adopting tech in a big way. Earlier, the government rolled out the Union Budget app for smartphones that will allow users to follow the budget updates on their phones. The Union Budget app is available for Android phones and the Apple iPhone at this time. The Union Budget app consists of 14 Budget-related documents, including the constitutionally prescribed Annual Financial Statement (AFS) alongside Demands for Grants (DG), Financial Bill, Receipts, and more. The central government says that the documents will be available in Hindi and English – all in an “eco-friendly” manner.

The back panel design remains the same with a single camera sensor and LED flashIn terms of specifications, the iPhone SE 3 or iPhone SE 2021 is imagined to feature a 5.4-inch OLED display instead of the traditional LED display on iPhones models.

To update your iPhone or iPad to the latest iOS 14 version, head to Settings -> Software Update to check and download the newest update.
