Sanjhi Soch buero :Parineeti Chopra has shed her bubbly girl image for director Ribhu Dasgupta’s psychological thriller The Girl on the Train. She talks about Dasgupta’s shooting technique and the audience expectations.

“I really liked the style of single take and steady camera shots. The uncut vibes reminded me of stage plays. But it’s a little more technical than that, like you have been given marks and you have to be aware of all the instructions,” said Parineeti.

It seems Parineeti prefers planned shoots than the spontaneous ones. “I am a very nerdy person, so I like to know things. If there are 30 focus marks and 80 dialogues then it excites me. And we have done pretty long ones here,” she said.

Breaking out of an established image is tough in Bollywood. Parineeti said, “I am glad that the makers thought I could do something different than what they have seen of me on screen. This doesn’t usually happen with actors because they have been seen in different roles. I wanted people to see a new side of me. I wanted to shock them.”

She added, “The reaction to the trailer is very encouraging. Now when people have started to call and tell us about their anticipation, it has started seeming very real. It’s almost scary in a good way. It feels like I am delivering a baby. I am that much invested in the character.”

Dealing with the hype and expectations can sometimes be difficult. She smilingly said, “If there is no expectation from an actor then it’s a scary situation to be in.”

Sanjhi Soch buero :Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone was spotted in Mumbai after a shoot. Dressed in ripped black denim and a matching jacket, the actress rocked the casuals with much grace. On her way to her car, the actress was mobbed by a swarm of fans stationed outside the venue. Someone also caught the sling of her bag and tried pulling it before the actress’ security personnel weighed in. Videos of the incident are already doing on social media.

While social media users condemned those mobbing the actress, they were quick to notice that Deepika wasn’t wearing a mask despite strict advisory shared by the Maharashtra government amid rising COVID-19 cases in the state.

“Media hounding her like dogs and people snatching her thousand dollar worth bag to sell a tissue? Maharashtra contemplating lockdowns, no one wearing masks, no distancing. Are people even sane? EVERYTHING IS JUST BEYOND WRONG WITH THE VIDEO,” a user commented on the video.

Another wrote: “What sort of security is this, She only went from the door to the car n people were throwing them selves on her n pulling her bag very poor security.”

“Are ye Kaisa social distancing behaviour hai? Neither the celebs are promoting the right behaviour by wearing masks nor the media by jumping on each other and then we blame the Government for not doing enough to curb this pandemic,” said a third user.

On the work front, the actress has a busy year ahead. She will be seen in Shakun Batra’s upcoming yet-untitled film that also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday.

The scenes included one where the protagonist of the movie is seen attacking a priest while he performs a havan.

Lead actor Dhruva Sarja put out a statement responding to the controversy and clarified that the makers never intended to hurt the feelings of any community. While speaking at an event, the actor stated that the makers of Pogaru will listen to feedback from moviegoers and ensure that no one’s sentiments are hurt, reportedThe actor said that the makers initially included the scenes because he essays the role of Shiva, a demon-like character in the film. He clarified that the scenes will be edited out from the movie.Pogaru was the first big budget Kannada film to release post the Covid-19 induced lockdown. The makers of Pogaru met with the Karnataka Brahmin Development Board and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday in Bengaluru. The director of the movie, Nanda Kishore, apologized to the community and said that the scene was not intentional. “We did not intend to hurt anyone. All the controversial scenes in the movie will be removed and the viewers won’t know the difference,” he said.

Although the 2021 release schedule is full of films meant to come out last year, the excitement of cinema-goers to experience these highly anticipated movies on the big screen has only been doubled, according to PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani.

Sanjhi Soch buero :With several long-held big-budget tentpoles and pan-India films finally set to hit the theatres, PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani predicts a monumental increase in the number of footfalls and a record number of movie tickets sales in the next financial year. 2021 is going to be a big year for blockbuster movies including Sooryavanshi, ’83, Radhe, KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Maidaan, Liger, Radhe Shyam, among others.

What is your outlook on the current state of the exhibition industry?

Films have been slow to come by but Tenet which came out in December did extremely well. Wonder Woman 1984 did very well for us. Master did fantastic numbers even with 50 per cent capacity. One Telugu film called Uppena recently and with absolutely new star-cast has broken all previous records. So, signals are there that the public is dying to be back in cinemas. All they need is good quality, big films, big stars, exciting stories, and the good news is that in March we have got Roohi, Godzilla, and King Kong. For Eid, we have Radhe and Satyamev Jayate 2. Plenty of pan-India films in multi-languages are ready for release including Pushpa, KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Rajinikanth’s next film etc. We have got an exciting line-up and I believe that in numbers’ admissions that we’ll see in the next financial year would surprise a lot of people.

So, could one safely say that the second half of 2021 will be brighter than the first half?

Not just that, it’ll also be higher than 2019-2020.

With the Golden Globe awards ceremony and Oscar nominations around the corner, how is the international content line-up for the upcoming months looking like?

PVR Pictures has been fortunate that our films are getting a lot of accolades and critical support during the awards season. The Father has been nominated in four categories including Best Drama Motion Picture at the Golden Globes. The Mauritanian has received Golden Globe nods for Best Actor– Drama and Best Supporting Actress. These are also the frontrunners for Oscar nominations that will be announced in March. So, I think we are having an exciting and happy awards season and we are looking forward to releasing these films and presenting them to our audiences.

How do you see the decision of some production houses to release all of their 2021 line-ups simultaneously in theatres and on OTT platforms? Also, Master had its OTT premiere within a month of its theatrical release. Do you see this move as a threat to the box office revenue?

Release simultaneously on theatrical and streaming platforms is a very international trend. In India, we are not impacted by this at all. Only one studio has taken this decision which is Warner Bros. HBO Max is their streaming partner which is also part of the same group and it’s not available in India so we don’t get affected by this. As far as Master, what has happened should be seen as an exception to the rule. Producers are committed to following a certain window and which has been a sacrosanct factor for a long time which has benefitted all stakeholders.

So, you are saying that early OTT premieres don’t pose a threat to cinemas?

No, not at all. In fact, I see streaming platforms increasing a positive virtuous cycle because all the money that streaming platform is providing to filmmakers and studios is being re-invested in bigger and better films which release in theatres. Because ultimately, you are looking for a larger than life experience in theatres and for which you need special effects and films which are mounted on a heavy scale. Thanks to streaming platforms, producers are in a position to do that. So we see them as thriving and co-existing in the future.

Do you think the population has to be largely vaccinated for movie-going to return?

Vaccination is important but I think people around us are taking precautions. All business establishments including us and our peers and other members of multiplex and single-screen fraternity are following all SOPs in terms of masking, social distancing and hygiene. We see absolutely no problem and the proof of the fact is that not a single virus case has been detected back to cinemas, not just in India but anywhere in the world. So, the reality is that cinemas are extremely safe as a venue for customers to visit and entertain themselves.

“We are helpless as people are not following the basic guidelines for home quarantine after discharge from hospitals post recovery or after return from a place that mandates such isolation for a limited period,” Dr Subhash Salunke, technical adviser to the state government on COVID-19 outbreak, said. This clearly indicates people are inviting strict measures like lockdown, the official said.

Blatant violation of COVID-19 home quarantine and social distancing guidelines and unavailability of adequate resources for contact-tracing have led to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, a senior health official said on Thursday. Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded a single-day spike of 8,807 new cases, taking the count of infections in the state to 21,21,119. The state reported over 8,000 cases in a day after a gap of over four months.

Norms had been relaxed in good faith, but people have failed the efforts taken earlier by carelessly moving out in public places without taking adequate precautions, she said. “When cases of institutional quarantine were in lakhs, the state had managed the situation fairly well. Now, this number is slightly above 50,000, which we can certainly manage. The government expects some cooperation and understanding from people,” Patil said.

Another senior state health official also noted that several political rallies and gatherings took place in the last three weeks. “If leaders are more interested in short-term political gains, then there will be some consequences as well in terms of rise in number of COVID-19 patients,” he said.

These companies must also provide information and help with investigations within 72 hours of a request from authorities, the draft rules say.

Sanjhi Soch buero :The central government has finalised the rules to regulate internet-based businesses and organisations – social media companies, OTT streaming services, and digital news outlets, among others – as it plans to introduce a sea change in legislation to assert more control over powerful Big Tech firms.

Under the new Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, the government plans to mandate social media companies like Facebook and Twitter to erase contentious content as early as possible, but not later than 36 hours, after a government or legal order

These companies must also provide information and help with investigations within 72 hours of a request from authorities, said the draft rules, a copy of which News18.com has reviewed. Further, if a post depicts an individual in any sexual act or conduct, then companies must disable or remove such content within a day of receiving a complaint, the rules added.

The latest draft rules – which would be legally enforceable – have been released weeks after the government’s dispute with Twitter after the social media giant ignored orders to remove content over farmers’ protests. The new guidelines will supercede the 2011 rules, and government sources said that since the changes are only in the rules, and not the IT Act, Parliament intervention will not be required.

The draft proposal also requires companies to appoint a chief compliance officer, another executive for coordinating on law enforcement, and a “grievance redressal officer” within 3 months from the date of publication of these rules. All must be resident Indian citizens.

A copy of the draft rules, set to be released by IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, has been put out by the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF).

The oversight mechanism will include a committee with representatives from the ministries of Defence, External Affairs, Home, I&B, Law, IT and Women and Child Development. This committee will have “suo motu powers” to call hearings on complaints of violation of the Code of Ethics if it wants. The committee can warn, censuring, admonish or reprimand violators, seek an apology besides other actions.

The rules would also apply across other digital and online media, the draft proposal said. “A publisher shall take into consideration India’s multi-racial and multi-religious context and exercise due caution and discretion when featuring the activities, beliefs, practices, or views of any racial or religious group,” the draft rules said.

STREAMING REGULATION

While the new rules for social media and other digital platforms will be governed by the IT Ministry, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry will be the governing body for rules concerning streaming platforms. Referring to films and other entertainment, including web-based serials, the draft rules called for a “classification rating” to describe content and advise discretion.

The state reported 80 deaths, highest in two months since December 24, when 89 deaths were reported. With this, the total cases in the state jumped to 21,21,119 and the toll touched 51,937.

Intensivist Dr Rahul Pandit, a member of the state Covid task force, was quoted as saying by TOI that the rise in cases was “concerning”. “A rise in critical cases or deaths is seen 7-14 days after a surge in cases,” he said, adding that the next 10 days would be make or break for Mumbai.
