Dirba/Lehragaga, May 31:

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today dedicated several road development projects in the region to the public. Executed at a total cost of approximately ₹8.76 crore, these projects have significantly improved rural connectivity and transportation infrastructure.

Addressing a gathering during the inauguration ceremony held at village Daska, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the approximately 10.5-kilometre road connecting Bachhuana and Bareta via Daska and Bahadurpur has been widened from 12 feet to 18 feet. The project has been completed at a cost of around ₹7.15 crore. He said that the road was previously narrow and in poor condition, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters and increasing the risk of accidents. With its widening and upgradation, travel to Bareta has become much easier for residents of Bachhuana, Daska and Bahadurpur.

In addition, a new 4-kilometre road has been constructed between Daska and Khattriwala villages at a cost of approximately ₹1.27 crore. Earlier, the route was unpaved, causing significant difficulties for residents, particularly during the rainy season and extreme summer conditions. The construction of the road has now resolved these issues and strengthened connectivity between the two villages.

The Finance Minister further informed that a nearly 1-kilometre road leading to Dera Baba Dhaula Pir, situated on the Daska–Bahadurpur road, has been constructed at a cost of ₹34.50 lakh. Devotees visiting the religious site from various villages will now benefit from improved and convenient access.

He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, large-scale road construction and renovation works are being undertaken across Punjab, with nearly 40,000 kilometres of roads being upgraded and strengthened.

Harpal Singh Cheema stated that local residents themselves have acknowledged that village development had remained neglected for several decades. However, the present government is making continuous efforts to ensure the holistic development of both rural and urban areas.

He added that the completion and dedication of these roads have addressed several long-pending issues faced by local residents and that Punjab’s road infrastructure will continue to be strengthened in the years ahead.

A large number of local residents were present on the occasion.
