Only the second Pink-ball Test match on Indian soil, this match was expected to favor the fast-bowlers. Although, the pitch had other plans. Indian team bundled out the English batsmen for just 112 runs. India managed to pick four wickets in the first session. The spin-duo of Ashwin and Axar were the pick of the Indian bowlers.

Ishant Sharma picked the first wicket of the match in the third over. After a steady partnership of 47 runs for the third wicket, Joe Root got and who was quickly followed by Zack Crawley. The first session ended with England’s score at 80-4.

Trouble didn’t end for the English batsmen there, they lost another four wickets for just 18 runs. England score then was 98-8. Broad and Foakes had a nine over long partnership but only managed to increase the score by seven runs. Broad got out to an inviting delivery by Axar Patel to grant him his fifth wicket. The local boy from Anand near Ahmedabad, Axar Patel was fabulous on the day. Three out of the six wickets picked by Axar were LBW dismissals.

India would love to capitalize on the start they have got and take a big lead in the first innings. It won’t be surprising if the match ends before five days of the Test match. Earlier, the Sardar Patel Stadium was re-named as Narendra Modi Stadium.
