Another crackdown by Excise and Police on illicit liquor trade, recover 25,800 ltrs ‘lahan’
Sanjhi Soch Beauro –In another joint operation by Excise and Police officials, ‘lahan’ – kachhi daaru – was recovered during the raid in the enclaves of confluences of Sutlej and Beas at Hari ke village Kirian by the teams of Ferozepur and Tarn Taran.
The entire operation was carried out under the tutelage of Karambir Singh Mahla, ETO, DSP(Operation) Tarn Taran, Amanbir Singh, EI Patti.
During the operation, approximately 25,800 ltrs of ‘lahan’ was recovered and destroyed on the spot to avoid its misuse. However, the infrastructure used in brewing the illicit liquor – 8 tarpaulins, 8 iron drums, 5 silver utensils – were taken into custody as an evidence.
Meanwhile, an FIR was lodged with the police station at Harike for proceeding further and investigations are on. No arrest could be made, as the accused fled away from the scene on seeing the police teams.
Earlier on January 9, 21,600 ltrs ‘lahan’ was recovered in this area.
During 2020, there was a crackdown on illicit liquor business with recovery of 20,76,357 ltrs ‘lahan’, 21,872 ltrs of illicit liquor and 15,414 bottles of illicit liquor. However, 195 FIRs under the Excise Act were also registered on this account with total apprehension of 252. However, despite claiming to keep a strict vigil on illegal liquor trade continues unabated in the border villages of Ferozepur.
